Privacy policy
This policy covers the website www.westholt-rising.eu. Last updated: 25 September 2026.
The app is still in development. This policy describes visits to the website and contact by email. Before the app is released, we will update it to reflect the actual data processing in the game.
Data overview
| Activity | Data | Purpose and legal basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website visit | IP address, time, requested page and technical information where recorded in server logs | Deliver and secure the site and investigate faults; legitimate interest | STRATO states that full IP addresses are kept for no more than seven days and then anonymised. |
| Email contact | Sender address, name if supplied, message and follow-up correspondence | Answer questions and handle requests; legitimate interest and, where relevant, steps requested before a contract | We delete ordinary messages after resolving them, usually within 30 days. If a request takes longer or a legal retention duty applies, we keep only what is necessary for as long as necessary. See the archiving section below. |
Who is responsible?
Marcel Dusseljee is the controller for data processed through this website. For privacy questions and requests, contact info@westholt-rising.eu. Westholt Rising is not currently a registered company.
Website and cookies
Content pages contain the Google AdSense code. See the advertising and consent section below. STRATO processes technical server data to deliver and secure the site and investigate errors.
Email and STRATO Mail Archiving
The contact mailbox is managed through STRATO. We aim to delete ordinary enquiries from the inbox after resolving them, usually within 30 days. STRATO Mail Archiving was enabled: messages already in the archive may remain there separately from the inbox. STRATO states a default period of 11 years for that service unless archived messages are removed through its separate procedure. If you request deletion, we will also assess any archived copies, unless a legal retention duty applies. Disabling the archive does not automatically remove messages archived earlier.
Who receives data?
STRATO provides website hosting and email services. We share data further only where needed to handle a request or comply with a legal duty. Google services planned for a future app are not part of the processing on this website. If we use new service providers or transfers outside the European Economic Area, we will update this policy in advance.
Your rights
You may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your data where the law provides those rights. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email info@westholt-rising.eu; we may reasonably verify your identity before responding. You may also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Security and children
The website is available over HTTPS. We limit access to hosting and email to people who need it. Please avoid sending sensitive or unnecessary personal details by email, especially on behalf of a child.
The future app
We plan to use Google Play Games Services for sign-in and Saved Games for game progress. We are also exploring rewarded ads through AdMob and purchases through Google Play Billing. These features are not active on the website. Before releasing the app, we will document the actual player IDs, game data, device and advertising data, purchase data and any other data used, recipients and retention periods. We will then update this policy and the information in Google Play. This current version is not the privacy policy for a released app.
Changes
We will update this policy if the website or its data processing changes. The date above shows when this version was last revised.
Beta testing
The sign-up form collects your name, Google Play account email, an optional separate contact email and, voluntarily, your Android device model. We use this information to contact you about the closed test, send an invitation and handle feedback. Our grounds are your request to take part and our legitimate interest in organizing and improving the test. We share your Google Play email with Google when inviting you to the closed test. The form emails your details to our STRATO mailbox and also stores them in a protected file on our STRATO webspace. Only we can view, download and remove entries through a password-protected admin page. We delete ordinary registration emails and beta list entries no later than 30 days after the test ends, or six months after registration if no test takes place, unless a legal duty requires longer retention. You can withdraw by emailing info@westholt-rising.eu. Older archived email may remain separately as described above.
Newsletter
If you tick the separate newsletter box, which is unchecked by default, we use your contact email (or your Google Play email if none is provided) to send news about Westholt Rising. Our legal basis is your consent; beta participation does not depend on it. Only when you choose YES will we store your address in a separate, protected newsletter list on our STRATO webspace. We may use this list to add contacts manually to a mailing list. You may withdraw consent at any time by emailing info@westholt-rising.eu; we will also mention this in each newsletter. We remove your address from the list if you unsubscribe or if the newsletter ends. The registration email records your choice and its timestamp as evidence. If you do not tick the box, we will not use your address for the newsletter.
Advertising and consent
Content pages use Google AdSense, publisher ID ca-pub-1302689592468536. Loading the ad script can send data such as IP address and browser information to Google. When ads are enabled, Google may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads and, after valid consent, personalize them. We use no analytics tracker of our own. For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland we request consent where required through a Google-certified consent management platform. You can adjust your choices in that message. See Google’s advertising policies for details. The legal basis for consent-dependent storage and personalization is consent; the legal basis for essential security and site delivery is legitimate interest.
